Lid Replacment

Even though this piece is not cast iron it is non the less a collectable piece by Griswold that I need some assistance w/ if possible.
I purchased it off eBay knowing the lid was broken but in hopes I could replace it without much trouble. May have bit off more than I can chew...I've attached the link from eBay which clearly shows the broken part. Just wondering if any of you have tried such a repair and if the round head pins that hold the retaining washer for the lid are pressure fit or permanently attached in a way that the can only be drilled out?
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Michael, I hope your camera is fixed soon. I would like to see this one cleaned up. Could you just get a half inch aluminum lock washer and bend it to the right shape and JB Weld? The repair wouldn't really be visible.

Maybe...Not sure. I actually had my eye on a similar Griswold aluminum tea kettle priced lower than the one I bought but was in worse shape overall. It too would have to have the same type "surgery" done in order to get the lid off.
Didn't want to ruin a second piece trying to save mine if it just wasn't plausible. I will eventually get around to cleaning it and will post a picture when done. Thanks...

MD, Slightly tapered or groves is my guess. Very possibly some heat shrink to hold them in. I'd try heat & tap on the handle pins first as they probably used the same concept for the retaining washer pins. They would have have to been very careful using much force on cast aluminum.
