I have a Lodge skillet lid with an off set #8. I know anther collector that also owns the identical lid. Does any know the reason for the offset #8? Thanks James

You say it fits a deep skillet? Maybe a way to differentiate a slightly different diameter if the deep and regular were not the same.
I found a photo of a Lodge chicken fryer with lid that's not offset, so... Perhaps just an artifact of hand pour casting carelessness. I have some old BSR lids with incised markings (therefore in the pattern) that are skewed at an angle from the handles.
