I have a line on a maslin kettle, but know nothing about them. How desirable are they to collectors? To me they just look like bucket and are kind of boring. What would be a reasonable price to pay for a #12 Griswold erie 939 slant logo in excellent unrestored condition?
I don't have one but have bought several flat bottom kettles (mostly griswold and at least one Favorite) and I don't think I've paid more than 50 for any of them.. .and the 50 was at an auction for a really nice slant erie #7 flat bottom kettle.
The main reason that I am interested in this piece is the size of it. One thing that I have noticed in my short time collecting iron
is that if it's large and marked Griswold, it brings big $$$
yeah a #12 would probably be kind of unusual (I know I've never seen one that big)... so that's probably a pretty good rule. I'd pay more for a #12 in good condition than the more common 7 or 8...
