A local listing showed this photo of some cast iron for sale. Thanks to this site, I was able to id the lid as a Favorite (the tear-dropped shaped handle connections), and I assumed the skillet matched it. $20.

When I picked it up last night I looked under the lid and saw the dashed concentric rings of an unmarked Favorite skillet cover. But it didn't fit right on the skillet. Outer heat ring, ribbed handle, incredibly thin walls, pronounced lip. Only markings visible at the time were the size number (9) and a maker's mark near the center of the pan (D). Hmmm...you guessed it. At home in some good light, I was able to see the very bottom of an "E" and the very tips of the bottom of the next letter, an "R". My first ERIE, a second series. Let's hope the bath doesn't reveal any cracks. Pics in a couple days.
But which Favorite will the unmarked lid (it's clearly a #9) fit? Favorite? Smiley? Miami? Dual logo? Is there a lot of variation in size from one Favorite to the next? Or I can just leave it on the Wagner/National #9 that seems to receive it pretty well.
