National #7, no Star

I saw this at a local antique mall. It's in nice shape. I didn't have any National so I bought it after seeing some absurd prices on the internet. Many on the internet have a star under the "National" but this one doesn't. This site says 1890s to 1920s for this marking. What's the Star?

The assumption would be, absent a better explanation, that the star is a "maker's mark" (as opposed to a "molder's mark") and signifies the creator of the particular pattern, analogous to similar marks seen on Griswold's Erie skillets in that same general time frame, although the RB places a National with a star 1914-1920.
