National #8

Picked up a National #8 today. Mine is marked with National at 12 o'clock and just an 8 at 6 o'clock. There is a star below National.

Does this suggest it is an earlier model?

I have seen 1914-1930 and 1914-1940 as production dates. Which is correct?

Paid $12.00 for it. Did I do OK on price?
