Hello guys , I just pick this at a local thrift store , other than hammered top and rounds indentations , I could not see any other marks , what you think this is
Hammered finish ware had gone out of style long before the advent of CI casting automation. Two pour spout cover ears would indicate a skillet lid. The non-random dimpling pattern is impressive, but I can't put a name to the maker. What's the bottom of the lid look like?
It looks like Chicago Hardware to me. The lid on the DO in the second picture in the slideshow here is very similar. The handle looks a bit different but that might just be the angle of the picture. http://www.castironcollector.com/hammered.php
It may not be a CHF, but here is a pic of one that has two ears on a Dutch oven. (I know, possible mis-match.) The example pic on this site also shows an ear over the assist tab. Note that the ears extend about 1/2” on the link pic, but only 1/4” in the pic above leaning one to a more shallow spout like with automation.
The SMS’s have been around a long time. Do I smell a Southern Mystery Lid (SML)? I see a 2 under the carbon, maybe more info will show up with an SOS cleaning.
The middle picture of the last ones posted appears to have random dimples which would suggest a BSR Red Mountain series but I do not think BSR did any hammered pieces.
It also appears to possibly have been painted but hard to say from the photos posted.
May be of Asian origin????
I think it's probably an Asian copy of a CHF lid. The random dimples and the handle look like imports to me. I also think once it's cleaned up the pattern won't look as clean and smooth as a CHF.
I can't agree with any of the guesses so far. I don't think it's an import. I don't consider the degree of extension of the spout covers an indication of automation. I don't think it has anything to do with BSR or SMS or CHF. The lid profile has more in common with Wagner than anything, but the hammering style is totally unlike that of marked Wagner skillets or DOs. I have seen the same lid without spout covers, mated to an also-unmarked dutch oven pot which also has characteristics similar to Wagner. I have also seen a Wagner style "turtle top" DO lid with the same radial and sparse basting dimples as this one which was also inscribed with one of the patent dates seen on Wagner DO lids. But I am not going so far as to say it's Wagner.
Miquel, it looks kind of small, could you tell us what the measurement across is? Whatever it is, it is unusual and in my book that makes it pretty cool.
new pics after self cleaning oven and ready for seasoning tomorrow
marks that I see
I see a 7
I see 2 line synth middle
I see circle lines where the round indent circle are, the circle are indent not protruding outward
