New Find ~ Gaines & Short

Hi There,
This is my first post; I haven't introduced myself yet but I will soon. I was out on a photo class field trip today and one of the places we stopped was near an antique store, so I went in to see if I might make a cast iron find.

I found a small skillet that had raised markings on the top of the handle that read "Gaines & Short", and on the back under the crud it looks like a #2. After it comes out of the lye bath I hope it will have more markings revealed!

I am guessing that it was made as a promotional piece for a company called Gaines & Short, has anyone see any of these?

I am going to attempt to post a couple of pictures if I can!!

I am becoming a cast iron addict!!

Cheers...Eldon

Made by Birmingham Stove & Range (BSR), and yes as a custom promo for whoever they were. These are also seen with "Hemenway's".

After over night in the lye bath and a few hours in the etank I discovered what I thought was a 2 turned out to be a 3. There are no other markings on the back. After some hand scrubbing and clean up it is now in the oven with it's first coat of Crisco along with 3 other small skillets and a small bread mold, baking away at 500*.

Thanks, Doug D, for your help identifying it. I am new at trying to identify the cast iron that I have been picking up, but this Forum certainly is turning out to be a great help; I am very glad that I stumbled upon it!!
