Discovered a shop in town toady that I have been passing by for years. Who knew it was loaded with cast iron skillets, Dutch ovens and griddles. I spent the better part of an hour (all the time I could spare) going through several stacks. There are some interesting possibilities but I want to do my homework before I spend any more money.

I come away with a #3 Wagner Ware Sidney -O- 1053 F "Pie Logo skillet ... for $8. There's no real crud on it and no wobble, but a good patina and no obvious signs of pitting or scratches. I'll post pictures tomorrow and would appreciate comments.

There's a Griswold Crispy Corn Stick pan at the bottom of a stack way in the back of the shop. They want $35 for it. Not sure what the numbers are (I forgot to take a note pad), but IIRC, it's a 930.

930 is the pattern number for the #273 corn stick pan, probably the most common of the Griswold muffin pans. I would not be shocked to see one priced at $35 in a store. I was offered one in grungy condition at an antique mall booth recently for $75. I have a few and have paid as little as $14 and as much as $30 or so shipped for them.

Thanks, Doug. You saved me a lot of research. The corn stick pan is in really good condition but is realy cruddy. So thick it's actually starting to flake off in places. A good cleaning ought to be worth something. When I go back I think I'll offer the guy $20.

Ken, many sellers not familiar with the going values of collectible cast iron seem to follow a "Griswold = Gold" rule, and don't care if it's dirty or pitted or cracked or warped. The other thing I've learned is the simple question, "What's the best you can do on this?" will often get you at least 10% off without so much as the blink of an eye, so you should always use it. In the case of this piece, if your offer is rejected, I wouldn't be too concerned, there are a bunch more of them out there, and you'll run across one for a steal at some point.
