My name is Jim Paige and I have a new found interest in cast iron pans. Looking to expand my novice knowledge. I have a skillet that has no name marked on it, I've looked at other pans that have no markings that can be Id'd. This pan has a large number 8 on the front base of the handle, and a number 10 (type writer font) stamped on bottom of pan, about an inch from the rim, offset left center from the handle, with a solid rim that is flush with the wall of the pan. The handle is designed with a hollowed out appearance on the underside. This site is not very user friendly to me. Have problem trying to upload photo of pan from my phone. I was hoping someone may be able to I.D. The pan from my description. Thank you, Jim Paige

When requesting help for ID, it is asked that at least one photo be of the entire bottom of the pan including handle, taken straight on. The design is that of an older pan, ca. early 1900s. Similar to Erie of the same time period, but more likely another small foundry's copy of one. If a maker is known to have produced unmarked pieces, we can often tell, from characteristics identical to the marked versions, who made it. Griswold was not known, however, to have made unmarked Erie skillets.

Jim, I have a flickr account (free), and I move my pictures there to ready them for upload to this site. If you'll look at the "sticky" at the top of this forum, you'll find info on how to do it. It took me some futzing around on flickr to get it to work but it can be done--ha! And I think it's a little harder to do on a phone because the screen is so small. Don't give up though! The help and info you can get from this bunch is sooo worth it. :-)
