New to the forum. I have a few pieces of cast iron, but nothing quite like this one. Trying to add a picture but not sure if this'll work. Just curious about any info about this piece; manufacturer, time period, region made, etc. thanks for any info anyone can provide.

Here is a picture of the top. I did do an electrolysis cleanup, pretty grimy but I think it cleaned up retry well. 8 on the handle and what looks like a U on the bottom. Thanks

I picked it up in my home town, small town in Kansas right outside of Wichita. $5 at a garage sale. It does closely resemble the skillet in the other thread.

Really weird another one popped up...especially since I just bought the one I posted about.
Mine has a single pour spout and a nearly identical handle.
The bottoms are a little different. The gate mark on mine goes the other way (with the handle) and doesn't have any other markings.

All in all, I'm not sure what that means as far as same region, age, manufacturers, etc but they look an awfully lot alike!

Gate mark orientation was most likely determined by gate creation at the molder's discretion, so not consistent even within the same foundry. Designs can be indicative of a region or timespan, but, as opposed to the few dozen name brand makers, there were hundreds if not thousands of small operations when these were being produced, and most were probably copying others' pans rather than paying for patterns.
