New to the iron game - looking for feedback on this skillet

Hi all,

Just purchased this Griswold skillet and am new to the iron game.

Can I get some help determining if this was a good buy (not in terms of price but in terms of being a legit Griswold)?

Appreciate any replies - currently researching as I am new to the iron game. Trying to avoid first time buyer mistakes with fakes or reproductions: slightly overwhelmed in the amount of data out there.

Kind regards,

There must be something somewhere on the internet leading people to suspect far more cast iron of being counterfeit than actually is. The fakes are most often opportunistic, e.g. small items like toy waffle irons and corn stick pans. The counterfeiters don't ever seem to have produced anything that didn't at least have, to the experienced eye, some obvious flaw. Most times, it's not even an attempt to deceive, but rather just someone trying their hand at metal casting using a real pan as a pattern.

Your lid is indeed genuine, and actually, being a #10 "full writing top", a rather valuable piece on its own. The unfortunate part is the sulfur pitting on the bottom of the pan, but the likelihood of you finding one like it in better condition is reasonably good, if you want one.

For a first piece you got a nice start, a #10 with a marked lid. I'm still new myself and I'm looking to find a 10. You may find you will use it often I'm thinking. Wish you well on your future finds.
