Nickel plating removal

I picked up a Erie no6 skillet this weekend and it is nickel plated but in bad shape. Will electrolysis remove the rest of it.
 
Probably not unless it has been damaged to the point it's barely hanging on. Nickel plated pieces were not typically polished smooth all over like those that were chrome plated, so if you remove nickel, you should have the same as an originally bare iron pan. A plating shop could take the nickel off for you. Whether it's worth it to do that would depend on if or how much the actual iron has already been damaged.
 
Is it bad inside (cooking surface) or bad outside and/or both? Most of the time a picture will help with a more definitive answer and give us a better idea of what direction may be best to resolve your issue.
 
Is there any way to tell if the chrome or nickel plating has been removed? Does this do anything to the value of a piece?
 
As noted in post #2 above, a pan whose chrome plating has been removed should be expected to exhibit polished areas that bare iron versions of the same pan would not. A de-nickeled pan might be imperceptibly different from a never nickeled pan, assuming the removal process did not alter the patina of the original casting. If the question is does the removal of damaged plating restore any value, the answer is likely not.
