Nickle plating

Have a Griswold large logo #9 tite top DO with nickle plating. It is HEAVILY rusted. Almost no shine left to the plating, tiny pits all over. Doing a vinegar/lye bath/scrubbing restore. Do I season this all over? Will it take? Will it look "normal/bad?

Although not intended to be seasoned, nickel would certainly over time have become seasoned through usage if not scrubbed clean each time. If you are restoring for display, you may just want to concentrate on the areas where plating has been lost.

Andrew, too bad you're not in Atlanta. I have two plating customers I sell chemicals to. Both are silver platers, though. Of course, a silver plated Griswold would be kinda cool. Ha!

I'm restoring this for a customer. It's understood this is no collector item. Just wondering how to best make it usable again. I reckon a regular re-seasoning process will keep the rust at bay. It's never gonna shine again, too far gone.
