Oh No! IS that a Crack I see?

Newbie question, has any one experienced a pan getting a hairline crack when seasoning it? We got a lodge pan that had some rust. Cleaned it with 50/50 vinegar and water. Then used easy off. There was some pitting around the sides where the rust was, but no cracks. I did 2 rounds of seasoning. After the 2nd round I saw a hairline crack in the center of the pound. Not were the rust was. The oven temp was 400°.

Will the pan still be useable?

Thanks
Shannon

Center of the pound? Not sure what that means, but it's highly unlikely the crack wasn't there before you started. Photo?

Cracks normally occur in the sidewalls. What you have is more likely a utensil scratch or a casting flaw. Again, photo?

I have an old Lodge with a crack in the center bottom of the pan. My guess is someone tried to use it to pound in a nail.

... or settle a score with their husband. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised someone would use a skillet to pound a nail. People think iron is indestructible.

Without a picture, it's hard to be sure, but I agree with Doug. It might be a scratch. However, you probably would have noticed a large scratch before you seasoned it. Does the "crack" go all the way through the pan? If so, you won't be able to use it.
