Old Spider pot trying to restore need help

I found this on the side of a building built somewhere in mid 1800's. It was very rusted/pitted. I did the vinegar/water for 2-3 days taking it out and removing rust by scrubbing it with a pad and was actually amazed how much it came back to life. I finished getting the rust off yesterday then I neutralized it with Washing Soda. Then went thru the seasoning steps on here. just wanted to know if there was a way to get more of the pitting gone. I'm really not interested in the value as more of something that was used before the Civil War and would be a neat piece to use on camping trips if its safe to eat from. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that and from the photos I have would you think im close on the age of this. Should I have any concerns cooking with this?

Only thing I would question is was this ever used to melt lead. Easily answered question. Get a lead test kit from the hardware store for about $10.00.

Can't help on any of your questions but I sure am interested in the handle design. I have been twice looking at what I would call a camp fire/DO type piece of CI and the handle appears to be the same as yours. The CI that I am considering has a gate mark on the underside of the lid and also on the bottom of the cooker between the tri-pod legs. On the top of the lid it has in bold raised letters 10 IN. and on the top of the handle it has the same lettering. The lid is flat like the ones you see that charcoal can be placed on for top cooking. The handle is flat on the top side where the lettering is and the underside of the handle is the same as a normal type handle (rounded). I would love to see a close up of the handle for comparison of the one I am considering.
Thanks

Sounds similar if you look in the first pic, its more rounded but the top is definitely flat. Even some left over iron pcs inside the opening of the handled when it was made that didn't get cleaned out.
