Older pots and kettles

I am collecting regular cast iron cookware but have enjoyed collecting older maslin and gypsey kettles. I know little about them and realize that they are not valuable but I find then interesting. The ones I have found were use as planters. This does a number on the pot but neither of the two I have now can be used for cooking due to the enamel in them. It is almost impossible to get rid of the enamel. Any information would be appreciated.

John, I would clean them up and season them as if you were going to cook in them. They will look nice, especially next to an old rusty pail, and you may be surprised what they are worth as just stand alone pieces of history. No cooking required.
