One big pot

Well, more of a cauldron really.

Jeffrey R posted pix of his large and small kettles and I was inspired at the time to show my big boy. But not so inspired as to dig it out of the snow. It's been overturned as a cover on my well casing for about 30 years. The snow finally went down enough for me to pull it out.

It's unmarked and measures 18" high and 30" wide, with a big crack on its base. We're thinking it may have been used to scald hogs in as part of the slaughtering process. I've got it next to a No. 9 Griswold Dutch Oven. I rescued it from a neighbor who was planning to break it up to sell for scrap iron.

I think it needs to go in the E-tank.:biggrin:

One of my first thoughts was that thing should BE the e-tank. Get the inside down to bare iron, then use the NaOH electrolyte method to keep it from corroding, and just clamp onto the cauldron. Bubbles galore!

"Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble."

So says one of the witches in Shakespeare's MacBeth. I wanted that quote for my first post, but couldn't recall it.

Okay, so I had to weigh it. 150 lbs. No wonder my wife struggled to get it up on our bench for the picture.

It would have been great to have seen this being cast. It may have been made by one of our local Bangor, Maine foundries. I'm going to ask around.

OH, the pot of chili I could cook in that... :glutton:

I've always wanted to enter a chili cook off, but really don't want to show up with a giant, thin, aluminum pot... I want to show up with a bathtub sized cauldron.

Hmm.... :icon_scratchchin: Cast iron bathtub....

People cook in enameled cast iron...this is just bigger. Do It!!

You made me go out and measure mine, as I never have.

40" wide 21" deep.

The small one is 4.5" wide 2.5 tall with legs.
