Otter River Foundry

Hi all,

I'm not a cast iron collector at all, but I do collect small kitchen antiques. When I saw this guy covered in a 1/4 inch of rust and gunk I thought it was kinda unusual so I brought it home.

In case you can't read it, it says "otter river foundry, patent pending, otter river mass. U.S.A"

Does anyone know anything about this foundry? I could find this:

And this:

And a blurb from a 1937 newspaper that said another business was moving into the vacant foundry.

Also, what would this have been used for? Eggs? Square pancakes?

Plus, the ultimate question! Is it worth anything? I paid 15 bucks for it.

I had one of these once and am pretty sure it's an egg skillet. The ebay one for $195 is, well, wishful thinking. I don't think the value of these would be over $100 if even close to that. Nice and different piece however. I know nothing about the foundry. I have not seen any other pieces by Otter River.

Haha, yeah I figured that ebay listing was insane! I personally wouldn't pay more than the 15 I paid

It's funny that I purchased an egg skillet..considering I am highly allergic!

Thanks for the info,
Heather
