Peanut oil removal

I picked up a griswold no8 today at a antique sale. It's in great shape and the guy I got it from put one coat of seasoning it and then put peanut oil all over it. Can I just rub all the oil off that will come off and then put 2 more coats of season on it. Or should I wash the oil off.

If the peanut oil was not baked on, a wash with Dawn might take it off if it still feels greasy (not sticky). Depending on your level of comfort continuing to season over what may have not been done to your satisfaction, you may just want to strip it and start over. A base seasoning and some peanut oil should come off with lye or oven cleaner in a matter of minutes.

Clay are there folks/family with a nut sensitivity/allergy I just wondered (no need to answer it publicly) it would seem as though peanut oil would be a good seasoning oil
