Question about a National skillet

I found a well used National skillet. I have not yet bought it because it has a bottom gate and in all the pictures of Nationals I have seen there were no bottom gates.

Doug, Steve, Anybody? Did National at some time use bottom gate casting?

Wagner-made Nationals will not have a bottom gate. There are pans marked National, usually on the top of the handle, that are not Wagner. Or it could be a recast.

I agree with Doug, probably a copy made using a Wagner National skillet as a pattern.

Hey Doug, I can't think of a pan with NATIONAL on top of the handle. What is that one?

Upon further consideration, the other National I was thinking of is not actually even cast iron.
