Question About Color

I've noticed after I've scrubbed with the SS scrubber and Dawn, and I'm finishing up with a light wiping with a Magic Eraser, at first I get a lot of brown/black on the ME. I continue to wipe and rinse, wipe and rinse with the ME, and eventually the only color that comes off on the ME is a light green. I have been told that green means I'm down to bare iron. This always happens. I thought some of you chemistry guys could give a chemical explanation, yes? :icon_scratchchin:
 
Don't quote me on this, but I think the cast iron (basically a very high carbon steel) is reacting with the sodium bisulfite in the ME.
 
Kevin, I followed your lead and looked up "reaction between iron and sodium bisulfite," but the abstract was waaay over my head! At least learned there's a reaction! :mrgreen:
