Question re: restoring nickle/chrome pieces

I was reading some of the restoration info on the site and had a question regarding the nickel/chrome pieces.

I know that it was said that a lye bath would work fine on these pieces, but I was wondering if using oven cleaner would be effective or not? Anyone know? Thanks.

If by oven cleaner, you mean lye based aerosol like HD Easy Off, there is no problem using it on nickel or chrome. Running a nickel or chrome plated piece thru a self-cleaning oven cycle, however, will clean it but can permanently discolor the plating. Turns it bluish.

Yeah that's what I meant Doug. I've been using Easy Off for all of my resurfacing. I don't like the idea of running my pans through a cleaning cycle at all.
