Really neat waffle iron

Hi everyone! New member to this board and I ran across a really cool waffle iron I had to buy.

I really haven't found much info about it other than the obvious No. 00 size/ model and the fact that it's a griswold. Anyone know about these or what they might be worth? The picture I've attached shows a repair to the hinge- not in the greatest condition but I had to get it anyway. Such a neat piece!

I imagine I'll be around a while- seems like a lot of good info here.

Thanks!

I think it's a pretty rare find and even with the damage I would like to have one. Sharon Shuman has one, perhaps she can give you some more information.

Here's a catalog cut showing the iron. Note the prices are "per dozen".

Thanks, Doug! That answers the original question about value. According to the catalog, the piece is worth $2.42. Assuming you had a time machine and could go back and pay the original price. THey probably would have sold it for less considering the damage. ;)

By the way, it's interesting that they sold these by the dozen. Were they intended for restaurant use?

Perhaps, but not necessarily. Dozen pricing reflects master quantities distributors or hardware dealers were required to purchase.

Hi Doug- I don't see a picture and the only thing I can decipher is that it's a linked Image from a google drive. Do you have another place I can find the info?

But if it's $2.42, I got hosed :frown:  :-P

ETA: Able to get your attachment on my home machine. Any idea what year that catalog page is from Doug? Thanks! That oval waffle iron is something else. That'd be really neat to have too!

1912-1915. I find Firefox doesn't have problem linking inline to the new Google photo filenames, which do not end in .jpg and are ridiculously long and cryptic. Appears they don't care to have photos linked to directly any more since the demise of Picasa, but rather shared instead. IE chokes on them. I replaced the catalog cut image with an uploaded one.

The CPI Inflation Calculator says $2.42 in 1913 (which is as far back as it goes) has the buying power of $58.82 in 2016.

That's a great waffle iron! Thanks for sharing with us. Bonnie, mine is a no. 2, and the base is large, flat, and round. I think it's probably about 20 years older than the one DBlair found. It never ceases to amaze me that some of these so very old household use items have made it to the antique (not just old) stage in their existence. Maybe that is part of the attraction in these items--useful, graceful, sheer durability. And I am working on hubby to figure out a way to put pictures on this site--I really want to share some of my lucky finds with you folks!
