Really stubborn stuff

Pulled a few pans from the lye bath tonite, found a set of waffle iron plates that have been in there for a few months now. Whoops. Still not clean. Have a little number 3 that doesn't want to come clean either. Really thin black spots.

Anything can be used on these pans to remove the rest of the black?

Lola like you need star thinking about build an e tank it remove crud as rust at same time and only takes a few hrs to clean a pan to bare metal

You can always try dumping another can of lye into your bath, that should speed things up. Occasionally you will find pieces with black carbon, probably the spots you are seeing, and no amount of lye will get them off. I use a steel spatula to scrape off what I can and then lots of elbow grease and stainless steel scouring pads or steel wool. People say that e-tank will remove everything, but my tank doesn't touch those black carbon spots. I'm not sure why.
Good luck getting the black off!

The lye is working, albeit slowly. There's a very thin layer of seasoning on the pan, and the lye is eating away at it.

It's funny, some pans are clean in under 24 hours, others take much longer. Often wondered if it had something to do with the base layers of seasoning being done well or not.
