Red Mountain

They are both BSR, but the difference between RM and Century does not seem to be as cut and dried as the marking style. While both of these have what is considered RM markings, if they have thicker castings and small pour spouts, like those of the automated Century era, they were most likely made during that time as well.

Hopefully there are more people in the dark as well Jeffery. I just figured out my new lid for my Descoware is actually a Le Creuset lid. It fits good and they look pretty together so that's the way they are going to market. :icon_thumbsup:

It's not a bad marriage.

Doug, going by your description of thin walls and large ears I am going to assume this is a much older pan. Would I be correct and can you tell me what this is?

One could assume so. Much depends on just when a manufacturer switched to automation. Griswolds had larger spouts and relatively thin walls right up to the last of the pans cast in Erie. What's on the bottom of this one?

There are some areas around the outside walls of the pan that look like rough spots in the sand casting mold. Also the punch mark in the middle of the 5 on the handle is pretty deep. I haven't seen other pans with that mark.

The pattern used to make this pan probably started out as an older BSR (or very similar looking) skillet. An aluminum copy could have been cast from it and then modified to remove the heat ring, etc. Or the sand mold altered just prior to casting. Probably the former given the incised number on the bottom.

It's been a difficult day trying to determine which cast iron pieces I am ready to break up with. All these guys are freshly stripped, lightly seasoned, tagged and heading to the Brass Armadillo in Goodyear, AZ. Fly away little birds and bring momma home some cash! :icon_rofl:
