Road Trip

My hubby and I are headed east at the end of October. One of our stops is going to be in South Pittsburg TN. at the Lodge outlet. We are traveling from SW MO all the way to WV, Va and NC, basically the Shanadoah Valley Region. He will stop at any flea market I ask, or go anywhere I ask. We also headed thru theCumberland Gap. So what I'm asking is if any of you have suggestions of any don't miss cast iron places let me know. The furthest south will be South Pittsburg TN

Just make sure you go by the factory store in South Pittsburg and go to the defect section. I bought a #5 skillet for (I think) $7 and for the life of me I can't find a defect on it. I use it several times a week. (A lot of bang for my bucks!)

Enjoy your trip, there are a jillion antique stores everywhere, but hold on to your hat at some of the prices you'll find. After you pass up those pieces, you'll likely find some bargains, too.

Not related to iron, but if there's any way you can adjust the timing of your trip, I'd recommend being in the Valley ~ October 20, +/-. Who knows what Mother Nature will do this year, but that's when I remember the leaves being at their peak, when I lived there 20 years ago. I think there are few places more pretty than the Shenandoah Valley in the fall.

You should be there right around the peak of the leaves, enjoy it!

This summer, I was in a big antique mall in Lexington, VA, on Rt. 11. They had a bunch of iron with a wide range of prices. It's up on the hill across from VMI (where Hunter's guns fired on the school in 1864); IIRC, it was in the same strip mall as Tractor Supply.
