Rough patch on griddle

Hi - I am new to the forum and the hobby. I've run across this rough patch on a griddle that I have been cleaning. It's been through my lye bath and I have tried scrubbing with steel wool but that's as far as I have taken it.

Just wondering if there is another step that could take care of this, or perhaps I have neglected something during my cleaning process.

Would appreciate any feedback.

If what is pictured there is a raised patch of carbon, you'll get better results from a stainless steel Chore-Boy. It will reduce the carbon without scratching the iron.

Lyre won't remove buildup that doesn't have any grease left in it.

Thanks - I gave it a try and it does seem to be working but progress is slow. The stain is pretty much flush with the iron now but the texture is a little different. I think I'm going to let it have another session in the lye bath just to make sure there is no more grease/oil there.

If the "stain" is now flush, be careful. I have removed similar "stains" only to find a pit hole that this stuff was filling in. May be better to just season over it. With time you my not know it's there. That would be better than a hole in the pan.:icon_thumbsup:

Hank you hit the nail on the head. I kept going until I saw the stuff filling in the pit holes and then stopped.

I agree that seasoning will take over quickly as the holes are not that big.

Overall I am very happy with the way the piece finally came out.

I will take some pics and post here so that others can see what we are talking about.
