Round Top, TX Picking

I had a wonderful time in Round Top. It was a pleasure talking with so many other collectors and I was amazed by all the iron there was to see. I left Prescott with a duffle bag and came home with a whole bunch of iron. This picture has some of it, others are still needing some TLC. Thank you MDFraley and JMoss for your hospitality.

Thanks Ron and welcome to the forum, we drove real close to Buckeye yesterday. I used to sell out of the Goodyear Brass Armadillo which isn't far from you. I have found some nice iron there also. On the way home from Round Top we stopped at a place in Yarnell and I found an Arc Lodge #4 for $10. I can't wait to see it cleaned up.

Here is another one I found in Globe, Az. I'm not sure who made it but for $15 it came home with me.

Nice looking griddle! Brass Armadillo is a dangerous place! LOL!!! I have found some nice stuff there including a gate marked spider skillet.

Thanks for visiting Texas and it was my pleasure to host your visit. Hope you will come back and possibly visit more places that you didn't get to see.
There are places like Canton, Fredericksburge, and Wennie that have monthly events that you need to add to your list.
Even though you got a lot of iron I managed to salvage a few for myself. I will post them later in the week.
Good luck with your hunts in Arizona.
Not sure about that griddle you posted. I didn't find anything in the reference books I have but for that price I'm sure you can get your return investment back without any problems.
When you get the rest of your pieces cleaned please share with us.

It was so fun picking with another collector. My only beef was when you started hemmin' and hawin' about the $12 price on the possible Indian head. I thought that you might botch my deal on the $10 arc logo skillet. :icon_rofl: Please post that crusty mystery pan ASAP. The suspense is killing me.

It's the first flat griddle I have found in the wild. I'm glad I decided to check the clothing section of that store while you were busy with your Senior corn stick pan. I still haven't found any info on it. I can't find another with the two straight bars across the bottom. I know raised numbers usually say Lodge but no leads there so far.

Sounds like you had a lot of fun. Great finds. I especially like the look of the Turk head pan. Is it marked?

Jody, I don't think it's marked or very valuable. I just included it because I was amazed by the way MDFraley cleaned it and took it from looking like a boat anchor to looking pretty. I really need an E tank. It was one of the rustiest pans I ever bought.

Wait a minute Bonnie. You mean you need an etank because you're away from home and don't have yours, or you need an etank because you don't have an etank ?

I need an E tank because I never have set one up. I have all the parts like the charger and the graphite plates but I haven't put it together yet.

I must say, I'm shocked. As much iron as you buy and sale, I just assumed you used one. No need to put it off any longer. Get that tank built, you'll wonder how you ever did without one, lol.

Jody, I know, when JMoss found out I didn't have an E tank he said "No wonder you spend so much time scrubbing iron". :chuckle:

What caught my eye was the big logo Griswold skillet. Hard to tell in the picture but the pattern no. looks like 778 (deep #9) or 779 (deep #10). Nice find if it's either of those, especially if it's a #10 since that what the lid appears to be also.

Jeff, it's the deep #10. It's the first one I have ever come across in the wild and it's a beauty. She is a keeper.

Nice! Is the lid a #10 also? Looks like 470 p/n. I have the deep #8 big logo with lid in my collection. I had a deep #10 with lid but I sold it because it was plated.

Yes, the lid came with it. If I remember correctly we found it in El Paso. Michael found a real nice Griswold 665 breakfast skillet at the same place. I felt a little like we robbed the guy but he set the prices and we paid him. It was a bargain, no doubt.

Where at in El Paso may I ask? I currently live there. I also did a pick in your neck of the woods at the swap meet in Prescott a few weeks ago

Tobias, it was off the I 10 on Doniphan Drive. It may have been called Rosebud's antiques. It was in the same plaza as Rosebud's.

Bonnie, I am always amazed at your picking skills! If I ever win the lottery, I'm going to fly out to Arizona and pay you to teach me your secrets! ... Or are your picking skills your super power? ... and like Superman, you either have super powers or you don't. Ha!

Spurgeon, here is your first lesson, on the way from Georgia to Arizona stop at every single Antique store, flea market, yard sale and thrift store between here and there. It's not skill, it's persistence. I fail to find anything more often than I score.

I think the funnest part of this trip was when me and Michael would stand quietly together exchanging glances while listening to sellers explain to us how to clean iron with salted potatoes and fire. Seeing the $85 cold handled pan and the $85 rusted Lodge corn stick was fun too. LOL..the cold handle skillet was sitting next to a high base square Wagner WI, priced at $65. :icon_scratchchin:
