Rust or Heat Damage??

Hello. I am new to the forum and cast iron in general. Could some tell me if my skillet is heat damaged or is this just rust? If it is heat damage would i be able to wire wheel and re-season?

From your photos it looks like a case of red rust, and not heat damage.

I agree with Jeffrey. It looks like rust. If it was me I would skip the drill brush and just use a handheld brush with some vinegar to clean it up.

Yea, I'd say that is rust too. I'm sure it'll look great after it is cleaned up and seasoned. Is that a deep fryer of a sort? Do you know the make?

No idea the maker or the type of pan.. the only writing is on the handle that says "9". Does anyone else know? It looks similar to those pans that have gate marks.
