seasoning cast iron

this does pertain to cast iron, but if inappropriate, i'm sure someone will move it. i've been doing a lot of research lately, and read a bunch of articles about bear fat after its been rendered down to grease and oil. a few have said that it is even better than rendered pork fat for seasoning. anybody else hear anything about bear lard? bob

Let me preface this by saying, I haven't studied the science behind why some fats are better, but I seem to remember that there was a correlation between the amount of Omega-3's an oil contained, and its ability to season cast iron. IF that is true...I would assume that a bear, eating a natural diet, would be high in Omega-3's...especially eating a lot of fish. I would perhaps assume that, yes bear fat would be better than our domestic livestock derived fats. The only way to know for sure is to try it!!! Get me updated if you do.
