Silent bid victory

There is this little auction house that has a thrift store inside of it I go to. They have auctions Monday nights and I go Monday Day to the thrift side. Well I usually poke around and put in a silent bid on cast iron when I'm there. And to my surprise they had #14 martin. You could barely make out 4 of 14. THey had it marked 14 inch martin. It's a hair under 15 inches. I put in the silent bid at $60 because I had just sold some CI for $75 and figured what the heck. So a week goes by and no call I assume I didn't get it. I go into the place today a full 3 weeks past the auction and I won!!! All in all I paid right under $65. That is the most expensive piece I've bought up to now. But boy is it a whopper. One recently sold on eBay for $230+shipping.

Super nice! That is a beauty. I just never have that kind of luck, not so far anyway. This inspires me. Congrats on a heck of deal.

We have just the opposite here. Thrift store that does a twice a week silent auction. You can bid anytime, bids start at $5. Then 15 mins. before the end, the highest bids for each item is shown on the screen, and people have a chance to bid higher. Kind of a weird system.

That Martin was a GREAT find. I picked up one of the old No. 14 unmarked Lodge skillets marked (U.S.) for $29 and was ecstatic. Thing is HUGE, and smooth like glass. I've never seen a Martin that large.

Jmoss my postal scale only goes upto 10lbs and my wife hid the step on scale. Lol. I'll ask her when she gets home.

Rick if I'm not mistaken the #14 was the largest martin made.
