Some Finds

Picked up this #6 today along with an old shovel. I identified the skillet as an older lodge right away by the single notch. A second look shows that it is likely from the 30's. I passed up a 40's Lodge (3 notches, no 'SK' or made in USA) that was the same price at $8. I saw that they had a Wagner skillet for $15. After touching it once it seemed rough. Looking at the bottom I saw that it was the 1891 special. The point is that I'm learning! Thanks for all the help given on here.

Not sure about the shovel. I'll use it as a coal shovel but don't have a clue how to identify it.

Nice job and you are learning. Good for you! The shovel I have seen before and I've always placed it as an ash shovel for wood burning stoves. I have no idea if it's old or not.

That is my fireplace ash shovel purchased new this side of 1980. Mine looks much better 'cause I didn't leave it outside to rust.

Rusty means old, right? Rusty sells. So you buy cheap new stock steel items, decorate your back yard with it for a few years and sell it to dealers. Mother nature will even take the paint off for you. The return on investment beats the bank.

That's what I figured. Its going to be a coal shovel for some grills, so I don't need anything brand new. I'll try to get some of the rust off and clean it a little but that's it.
For $3.50 it was worth it.
