St. Paul Antique Sale

Just got back from a huge antique sale/flea market. I exercised unusual (for me) restraint this time, but managed to get a couple of very cool pieces. I find myself being attracted to the really old Victorian stuff from the 1800's as collection pieces, more than to the Griswolds, which are great for cooking.

This one I picked up for $18. As I think is usual with these oldies, there is no brand name on it. And it is quite pitted, but I think its really cool and belongs in my collection.

and I picked up this unmarked ebelskiver pan that I believe is 19th century for $13:

I won't post pictures of my other finds, but I did get a nice #5 LBL Griswold with fire ring, and a #5 Puritan, exactly like the one on the Store Brands page on Cast Iron Collector (http://www.castironcollector.com/store.php#), even the same pattern number/letter.

Well... OK... one picture showing them all. Oh yeah... also a Griswold corn stick pan for $20, already cleaned.

Great finds Dan and good prices.

I spent most of the day hunting and all I found was a #403 Pyrex bowl I needed to complete a set (been looking for that sucker a loooong time) and a #8 Griswold high dome button logo lid (#1098B). It fits my #8 704 skillet.

Spent more money on gasoline than on CI. and enjoyed every minute of it

Happy hunting

There was so much at this show that I really had to drag myself away from! A large logo Griswold griddle (a rectangular one, not a round handled type), a large bailed round Griswold LBL, lots of ordinary Wagner, priced too high. I'm tempted to go back tomorrow and see if that rectangular griddle is still there.

I really only screwed up on one piece... hastily bought a very rusted LBL pan (#8, I think... its in the e-tank right now) and didn't pay much attention at the time as to how badly sulfur pitted it was. Pretty bad. But I only paid $5 for it, and it will make a fine addition to my personal cookware so maybe all is not lost.

I should add that the Puritan that I got was by Favorite, not by Griswold. Has the 5F pattern marking.

Love the handle on the ebelskiver.

Read the thread title and got a little excited, I'm in St Paul too - but wrong side of the border. I did find a badly pitted unmarked dutch oven today, near fell over with sticker shock - they wanted $295.00.

Looks a few folks went iron hunting. Well, so did I 300 miles round trip and lobster dinner. I spent less on fuel than iron. But we will leave that for another post.

Dan Farmer, Nice find. I also saw a fancy handle on an abelskiver pan, but someone did a very nice job of welding it back together and grinding is smooth. Left that behind.

I have to agree with you on being attracted to the really early pieces, as I found myself another 3 legged kettle.:covri:

The skillet in your first photo, is that a single pour spout?

Jmoss, Griswold lids around here are very hard to come by, good score. But I did find one for a piece that was in another post last week. I think DougD put up a photo of one.

Not sure I understood what you meant by where you live. You mean you're over in Wisconsin?

Yes, that is now my 2nd single pour spout skillet.

It turns out somebody took a scraper to the inside of the Puritan some time in its past. Bunch of deep scratches around the shoulder. Grrrrr!!

Not sure where Wisconsin came from, as I do not know where you are. Top of everyones post. Name on the left, on the top right is Join Date, Location ( if you fill it out?) Wish everyone would, nice to know where all the good iron is.:chuckle:
and how many posts.
Now you can see where I am. Very close to Canada.

I also picked up a single pour spout skillet. But they took the scraper to the outside. Not sure how bad??
