Stainless Steel in Lye

Hello

I recently acquired a Favorite Dutch Oven with what I believe to be a stainless steel handle & pour assist ring. I planned on soaking it in my lye bath. Will the stainless be ok? I'm assuming so but just wanted to make sure.

Not a problem. Probably not actually SS, though. Plated or tinned more likely.

Did you try a magnet on the suspected stainless steel parts, Adam?

No I didn't. Is SS magnetic?

No I didn't. Is SS magnetic?

Depends on whether the SS is austenitic (non magnetic) or ferritic (magnetic). A magnet won't stick to my SS refrigerator or sink, but will stick to my oven, dishwasher, and all my SS knives.
