Teapot Cleaning Question

I recently picked up a lodge teapot at a yard sale. It had been sitting on a wood stove filled with water to help with the dry air. Years of use has left a coating of mineral deposits on the bottom. Is there any way to clean this pot so that it can be used again? Thanks for any help.

You could try CLR

Would CLR be able to rinse away four use in a kettle? Would heating the kettle produce harmful toxins?

It will rinse away, but it will take a bunch of water to do so.

So after cleaning with CLR and thoroughly rinsing it, do I have to do anything similar to seasoning it?

Traditionally, it was that very same lime scale that shielded the interior against rust. I would tend to view other people's lime scale the same way I do other people's seasoning, and start over. See http://www.castironcollector.com/seasoning.php#tea for some other thoughts.
