The chicken fryer we received as a wedding gift in 1984

Hey guys, I thought some of y'all might like to see this...

When we got married in 1984, we were given this chicken fryer as a wedding gift. It was unseasoned and we had no idea what to do with it. So much so, it moved with us from Apartment to first house in Birmingham, to Atlanta, to Chicago, and back to Atlanta, without her being used. Finally, a couple of years ago when I stated developing an interest in cast iron, I dug it out of the back of the cabinet and seasoned it. I have still only used it a couple of times.

I didn't do a very good job of seasoning it and I'm thinking about scrubbing it down and starting over.

Anyway, here it is:

The inside has a really rough texture and almost looks like they didn't finish it. It has several places where the iron has a jagged clump sticking up.

It is definitely a BSR from their Century line. How do I know? ... It still had the label in the pot when I opened it up!! (Which I saved)

Here are the instructions on the back of the label:

Now that I am even more interested in cast iron, I've been looking for recipes I can make in it. I think I'll start with a whole chicken. Ha!

Nice. A Dremel stone tip will make short work of those mountains. I use mine quite a bit for searing as it catches a lot of the splatters.

The 8-B(7) is slightly smaller than any previous incarnations of the #8 BSR CF, so it's good you acquired it as a set.

The reference for "no-name" cast iron on this site says the Century series was in the 1960-1970 range. Maybe somebody re-gifted a pan they didn't use either? Ha!

I probably should revisit and clarify. On the unmarked page, the years or decades were meant to be approximately when a type of marking style began.
