The Favorite

Seems as though I spend more time asking for help rather than helping others. Went to a shop I haven't been to in a while today and found this cast iron pan marked THE FAVORITE all caps and block lettering. The number 9 is at 6 o'clock. Pan is smooth inside (small amount of surface rust) light weight, thin walled and heat ring. I am thinking it may be the work of an individual since I can not find anything in our CIC base nor in the BB. I paid $19 for it so I'm not out a bunch of money. Is this the work of a handyman or something I want to hang on the wall someday? See attached photos.

I think they have a lot in common style-wise with 1st series Erie skillets of the same time frame.

MD, Great find. Interesting note, The Columbus Hollow Ware Co. used prison labor to make these skillets. I've had my eyes out for one for a while now. I would like to give it to my sister who is a prison guard.

Finally got my #9 "THE FAVORITE" skillet cleaned and seasoned and it turned out just fine.
Was going to post it one the Show & Tell but since I already had this post started just decided to do it here.
Also found an additional link regarding the Columbus Hollowware Co. regarding the prison labor's used to make these skillets.
Here is the link I forgot to add..

Looks great, and an unusual story behind it. It's exciting to find these hidden treasures of history. I buy a lot of pieces that I resale to help support my cast iron "addiction", but I found myself keeping all of the unusual pieces for myself. Thanks for sharing.

Isn't that what we're here for? To help!

"Pieces marked "The Favorite" are often confused with Favorite Piqua Ware."

And being as I've never seen one of these in the wild, I've never had a need to look it up, I would have assumed Favorite Stove & Range as well. So by you asking about it, I've learned something as well. Thanks!

I'm often humbled by what I don't know about cast iron, brands, markings, etc.
