Hi There,
It has been several months since I have posted anything, but I’ve been reading. I have been very, very busy and just didn’t feel up to it; moved up north, out in the country, the closest city would be Houlton Maine; had a family death and being the executor spent over a month on looking after all the affairs. But I have finally found time to track down some cast iron!
I have gone to 4 or 5 yard sales and estate sales recently and found nothing! But today I lucked in, I went to an estate sale and it only has 2 skillets of no interest, but on the way there and back I stopped into an antique store and purchased a couple of pieces and stopped at 2 yard sales and picked up the rest.
Here are a couple of pictures of my finds.
On the first row to the left, from top to bottom: (1.) the skillet is marked on the bottom: SMART’S on the top, and BROOKVILLE ONT on the bottom and in the middle is a circle with a diamond inside the circle and a letter G inside the diamond, (2.) the next one reads: McCLARY’S DRIP TOP SPYDER and at the bottom X617, and (3.) the griddle just below it reads: McCLARY’S, under that a No 9 and under that ROUND GRIDDLE and at the bottom X613.
On the next row to the right: (1.) an unnamed skillet with lots of crud and what looks like a number 2 in the middle, and 4 notches on the ring, ( 2.) is an unnamed griddle with a number 9 on it with the letters NG just under it and at the bottom a letter H.
On the next row at the top is a: (1.) an “ERIE” griddle with the numbers 738 on it and under that and raised what looks like a tag from the casting the numbers 1786 and below that the number 8, (2.) this griddle has so much crud all that is showing is: CARLETON PLACE ON and under that MADE IN CANADA, and under that No 1. It will be interesting to see what else shows up when it comes out of the lye tank!
On the last row is a: (1.) a rectangular pan that measures approximately 11¾ inches by 13 5/8 inches that has no makings at all that I can see, (2.) is a three legged bowl with only a number 8 on the bottom, nothing else that I can see, but something might show up when the rust is removed, (3.) is a gate marked bowl with no makings and a gate marked lid with the number 10 on the top of the lid.
After not having much luck for awhile, today was a good day and now I certainly have lots of cleaning and seasoning to do!!
Cheers!!!....
