Two Freebies

I went to my regular haunt yesterday and bought a #8 Griswold slant (shown in Eldon's thread in the holy grail section). Then the sales lady, with whom I have a good relationship but who doesn't really know me personally, urges me to take these two other little #5 pieces, made in USA but nothing spectacular, for nothing, or "maybe if you clean them up for me I can give you a discount on something else. I'd like to see what they look like after cleaning."

She already discounts stuff for me so much already that I normally force an additional $5- $10 on her, and I though it was decent of her to trust me with this stuff, though she probably didn't pay much.

Anyway, I look forward to returning them to her in 2 weeks, all spic, span, and seasoned!

Rob, congrats. on your no. 8 Griswold; not easy to find--nice to have. Your dealer friend sounds like a nice person, for sure. Although I have to say somebody may have urged her to take those skillets to get them out of the house, garage, storage shed or whatever. I bet they aren't the lost cause they at first glance seem to be. Please let us see them fixed up if they come out okay. (And I trust they will. :-)) Your friendly dealer should be properly amazed! After years of collecting, having to let some things go bad in poor storage, and selling off remains, I know I would have liked to see the cleanup job that was done on them.

Thanks for the feedback, Sharon. Yes, she is very nice.

I guess we've all wondered how many vintage pans get thrown into the trash and are now in a land fill somewhere, "ruined" by all the accumulated crud that Dawn and a sponge "just won't get off.":-)
