http://imgur.com/a/Poi6c Bought this last weekend. It was pretty rusty but it is only the third bee hive lid I have ever found. It has the number 530 inside the lid (in an interesting font) and nothing on the bottom of the pot.

About 2 months ago I found this fully marked Mi Pet: http://imgur.com/a/xeYtf
Try as I might the only differences I can find are the markings. Does anybody know if Western Foundry Company made unmarked pieces for other name brands?

Griswold fans, does that pot look like it may be a knock off? Does anyone recognize the font for the number on the lid?

Thanks for any help.

Tough questions Jack....Sounds like me a lot buying something and not being able to trace its birth and/or family background. As the font....Griswold made some unmarked pieces (three letter designations) that look similar to the font on your lid plus the early Erie and Victor had similar type font.
Pretty sure they didn't make you lid but it's a guessing game sometimes on these type things.
Sorry I can't answer any of your questions but I will check back on this post from time to time...Maybe I'll learn something new.

Thanks Bonnie and MD.

The first beehive DO I ever saw was an Ozark by Crescent, complete with trivet. I didn't buy it and I have been kicking myself in the butt ever since. It's a little embarrassing that I didn't think to search one out for comparison

I am still more than a little surprised that the Mi-Pet is exactly like the Crescent except for the markings. They must have been made in the same foundry or at least from the same pattern.

I appreciate your help

Jack

Jack, the O'brien and O'brien is very similar also. It must be a Chicago thing. I wouldn't be surprised if O'brien didn't sell their patterns to Crescent.
