Victor Ghost Marks

I just discovered that my #8 Griswold Victor has a couple of ghost marks! I don't think that any of my other iron has those. Or if so, I haven't discovered them yet.

Hard to see, but there is a ghost "A" to the right of the 723. There is also a dot above it... don't know if that is really a "ghost" or just an artifact of casting, but the "A" is real for sure.

This one is easier to see. There is a number "23" beneath the "T" in VICTOR.

Re: My First Erie (and more)

The 23 is part of the p/n 723 in its previous location on the pattern. The extra A tells us at least one other alteration was made to the original pattern. Both illustrate how makers wrung every bit of usefulness they could from the expensive-to-make patterns, and make it clear they did not just buy new and discard/sell old patterns when a change was made.

Wow!! Have you thought about writing a book about CI, Doug?

PS: Thanks for moving this to its own post. Guess I should have done that myself.
