Waffle Iron/ID Help

I am new to the cast iron community, being an actual owner my very first cast iron waffle maker.

I am looking for a base for it, and unfortunately, am unable to identify it. I am looking for any info I can find, or pointers as to where to search. So I am calling upon your expertise to guide me in the right direction.

I have attached pictures of it to see if that helps.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you,
Tammie B

It's quite old, probably ca. mid-1800s. No real way to tell a maker, the decorative elements of the waffle pattern were commonly similar to those or others like playing card suits, diamonds, etc. It appears to be in very good condition; the hinges are often seen broken and/or repaired. Finding a matching base could be difficult but not impossible. You'll need to bear in mind the diameter of the opening, the journals where the pins set, and the shape and dimension of the cut-out(s) for the hinge. A base for this era of iron should be low profile with a side handle.

Thank you for your input!

I have seen some bases that appear to be close: They look like a skillet with no center, hinge cut-outs on the handle side/opposite the handle side, and pin-pivots on each side. Still looking to possibly buy one that will suffice for my iron.

You confirmed the what little info I had, and more. I had hoped it was old, and thought that it could be from the 1920's but suspected it to go as far back as the 1800's. It does have a very unique Fleur De Lis, and I have found a few that are close, but not exactly.

Any ideas where to look for a base, or to research further (books, catalogs, etc.)??

From time to time these type WI's and bases will pop up on eBay. Just have to check and be ready to pull the trigger. I've seen some listed where as the WI was cracked/damaged but the base was still in good shape. If in doubt about the size/dimensions just ask the seller to provide the dimensions and most time they will do so.
Second option is to just look when in the antique stores but make sure you have those measurements with you so you can determine if they will work.

Thanks!

I did see one on EBay but it didn't have any dimensions, and they haven't answered my question about it.

I will continue my search!!

I just bought a similar waffle iron (without a base, also)... but I thought I had one that would work... it kind of works but I'm not sure it's exactly right. It fits the pins and will rotate on the pins from one end to the other.
