Wagner Facebook group

Doug, if this isn't acceptable, please delete. I have started a Facebook group centered around Wagner Ware and related hollowware. Not in competition with this great site or other Facebook groups, just focused on one brand. I will refer people back to this site for more in-depth knowledge. But if Wagner is your huckleberry, come join and strut your stuff.

The thing I've noticed about trying to use a facebook group page as a substitute for a forum is that by its very nature it's a counterproductive setup. Facebook is only interested in viewers seeing what's new (and new ads). To that end, it hides all but the most recent comments/replies to a post behind a "see more comments" link. The end result is that questions are answered multiple times, both correctly and incorrectly, by commenters who fail to read all the previous, hidden comments before replying. Even more troublesome is that a new comment made to an old dormant post brings it to the top, pushing currently active posts down the page and more quickly into inevitable obscurity. New members browsing through older posts and replying to several in short order can disrupt flow and continuity of the entire page in a matter of minutes.

For information and advice I send them here to CIC. The page on Facebook is more or less sharing our love of the brand and showing off our collection. Thanks for the input though Doug.

I like Wagner as much as the next guy, but Facebook.... I've avoided it this long, and will continue to avoid it like the plague.

It's a little looser venue than here and it's geared for enthusiasts who like to compare and show off their collection. Tips and such are OK but hard-core info is for a site like this. We all have a place and work together to further the cause.

Love this forum but for speed of information, facebook cant be beat. And their are some pretty good people out there. Doug is right with the comment section though. It gets tiresome.

I'm a member of Scott's FB group. I'm a member of a lot CI groups on FB. I've referred many, many people to CIC because it is a treasure trove of information. And that's all I have to say about that.

My avoidance of facebook has nothing to do with DSBradley. More to do with facebook. I had to create a personal account before I could create a corporate account for work. Within' a few hours I had "Friend" requests' from 5 or 6 people from my past that I never actually considered friends in real life.

Although I will say that it's annoying when someone says you should check this out, and when I click on the link it asks me to log into facebook to see the content. Public groups should be visible to the "public" without them having to log in. This is just a setting. I've browsed other FB cast iron groups without having to log in.

Thanks for putting into words exactly how many of us feel about Facebook. Intrusive beyond belief. I refuse to open an account for numerous reasons including those you mentioned. I do wish I could view those cast iron forums but if creating an account is the price of admission I'll have to pass.
