Wagner Maker's Mark?

Have a Wagner Ware dutch oven (1268) marked with a single B on the lid. This number/piece is not uncommon, but have't seen one with the B. I assume the B is a makers mark because it is inscribed, not raised. I'm not entirely sure what a maker's mark is (is this the mold identifier?) and am especially wondering if you can date a piece based on this letter in addition to the style of logo?

In this case, the B would be a pattern identifier, but not a maker's mark in the sense of identifying the creator of the pattern. Wagner pieces with catalog numbers inscribed can sometimes be generally dated based upon the boldness of the inscription of the TM and the font used for the other numbers and letters. Earlier have a heavier line and a hand carved-looking sans-serif font; the later a thinner line and a stamped-looking font.
