Wagner Ware griddle with weird gold color

I saw this today in an antique store. It would have been a nice griddle for my Sportsman's Grill, but it had a weird gold color covering a lot of the griddle and I couldn't figure out what it was, so I passed. (Didn't like the price either)

Any ideas what would cause that?

Spurgeon,
I have two or three skillets (one of which I use fairly often) that turned golden brown/bronze after I stripped and seasoned them. I have no idea why. The one I use regularly is slowly turning black. It hasn't affected the performance or the flavor.

If you figure out whats causing this I would love to hear about it.

I can't tell you what it is or why it happens , but I have had the same things happen several times .
I buy and sell allot of cast iron . I clean every piece in an E-tank , scrub it with Dawn dish soap and a stainless scrubber and then season them with three coats of Canola oil .
I haven't kept records or anything , but it does seem to me that it's always a Wagner Ware skillet or griddle that does it . I can have 4 pieces of different makes in the oven at one time and only one will come out that way .

They will turn pretty black if you use them or keep seasoning them more times though . But it IS kind of strange .
