picked up this pot yesterday. its a no 7, 3 legged pot with 2 bails. not sure its supposed to have 2 bails, the bail holder is sorta stepped instead of just a loop. any one have any idea what it is or if its supposed to have 2 handles.

Hi Kev, I don't believe it's suppose to have two bails on it. The "stepped" ear you mentioned is just a "stop" for the single bail. I would say that the owner before you either thought two bails were cool or they were cooking something heavy and they were just playing it safe. Again, I might just be blowing smoke too so . . .

That was my thought as well. The true bail is the one on the lower step of the ear.

I'm guessing that the two bails allowed the previous owner to hang the pot at two levels over the fire to allow high and low temperature cooking.

Probably they were teaching kids how to cook outdoors, since it supposed to be full and hot they add the handle to allow 2 kids to carry the hot pot.
