What did I buy?

I can't get over how beautiful the cooking surface is on this #12 Do. It seems like an old gate marked piece wouldn't be this nice. :icon_scratchchin:

I found a Pyrex lid that fits it perfectly for $1.49 at the thrift store.

Thanks JohnE, I was readings Steve's info and I saw they called these Griswolds Mountain Grade. I am not too pleased with the cooking surface right now but I will keep working on it. I just wish I knew something about this big old #12. :icon_scratchchin:

DougH, these two DO's have been sitting on a bottom shelf in an Antique store I visit for as long as I have been going there, a long time. They were in a back corner hidden by some dusty thing in front of the shelf. I have pulled them out many times before but always carefully placed them back behind the dusty thing. I paid more for the #12 than I have ever paid for a piece of CI, $38.

Seems like a great piece for that price. I wish I could say I have been as frugal as you have, because I don't own any pieces that I think I should have paid more than $40 for...but I bought them and overpaid in the early days before I knew any better.

Thanks John. Doug D, do you think I could call this a possible Blacklock? Or is it something even more mysterious? It's my new favorite no matter what it is. :chuckle:

We often see a propensity in collecting circles for an awful lot of people to want to make anything with a raised size number and raised molder's mark letters a possible Blacklock. Both types of marks are just too generic to make a leap like that without any other substantiating characteristics.
