Hi All. I am new to cast iron but I just picked this up and I am curious. Can anyone give me any idea of age, how and what it was used for, how common are those pots now? There is some kind of nickle like coating on the inside of the kettle and cover. Would the coating help determine the age of the kettle? Thanks in advance, I can post more pics if needed.

Looks like something for hot water on demand. Don't know if the spout is original. There was, according to Google, an Izon in the late 1700s engaged in cast iron hollowware in Birmingham, England.

Could be nickel, or if not, maybe tinned.
