What's wrong with this 1-notch #3?

I picked up a one-notch number three the other day when I bought the Lodge DO. It was completely encrusted and I was going to pass ... but the guy wouldn't budge on the DO price, so I said I'd pay his asking price if he threw in the #3. I knew it was not worth anything, but I had to get at least a little something out of this guy! Ha!

Anyway, it turned out about how I thought it would. The cooking surface is just butt ugly. (two rounds of seasoning on the one on the right. I used Crisbee ... I figured this one by a good test to see what it would do.)

Still, that's not what bothers me ... Is this thing really a Lodge? The exterior is kinda rough like a new Lodge ... and so is the interior. Here is a picture of another one-notch I own ... just to show the difference.

Some Asian producers were known to copy Lodge's notched heat rings. Not to say this is conclusively a knock-off, though. I would have to say the cooking surface is damaged and didn't come from the foundry that way, wherever it came from.

Spurgeon here is my 3 notch #5 Korean:)
I couldn't tell from all the crud on it. I just saw two of the notches and the price near give away.

But it was a swing and a miss, oh well a BSR came with it.

I'll try and down size photo
